After a longer-than-usual delay between Administrations, the White House tours resumed on Tuesday, albeit with no shortage of surprises and controversy.
President Trump thrilled a group of grammar school students by making an appearance midway into their morning tour. The President greeted the children and their teachers while the news cameras were present to capture the moment. Going unnoticed was the painting to Mr. Trump’s right of former First Lady and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
It wasn’t until nearly a day later that someone from this newspaper, obviously trained in police investigative techniques, spotted something amiss. The portrait of Mrs. Clinton sporting one of her signature pant suits was tilted slightly to the left.
A spokesperson for White House security produced an official statement this afternoon.
“We have never, in the history of these public tours, had someone adjust one of these paintings off its center. We will be reviewing the security tapes for some time before we can narrow it down to a single suspect.”
Although our place, as journalists, is to just report the facts, my money is on the kid who did that Trump finger thingie when he stood next to the Commander In Chief.
The painting has since been righted.
