That is the question. Whether ‘tis preferable in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of Trump-hating acceptance speeches or take the night off from television and perhaps readeth a book.
I know there’s this thing where Conservatives, especially Christian Conservatives like me, are supposed to denounce all things Left Coast, but that would be not only dishonest, but hypocritical.
I don’t hate Hollywood. I’m a movie fan so I appreciate that we have such an industry churning out a variety of works. Some good. Some not so good. Some with a definite political agenda and some (like most of the animated films) agenda free. Then there are movies like Hidden Figures which are actually important, not just entertaining.
And I certainly don’t hate these actors; even though I truly believe the Donald Trump most of them seem to be loathing is a Hollywood creation, more akin to the likes of Hannibal Lecter than to any actual person living or dead. I would also hate the guy they claim him to be if I was watching that fictional character on the big screen.
As wrong as I think these Liberal actors are in their political opinions, it would be most unfair not to recognize how much good so many of them do in the world. Some have raised awareness of the suffering of people groups in areas of the globe that would have been otherwise ignored. Most seem to put their money where their mouths are when it comes to helping the less fortunate.
Although I can’t remember the last time I didn’t watch The Oscars, this year might just be too much to bear.
